Senior Sendoff Challenges
Our Senior Sendoff traditionally has three components, answered by each of the seniors as they go up one by one to be honored:
1. What have I received?
2. What have I given?
3. My challenge for you
Below are a list of challenges from the seniors in recent years.
Class of 2012
- Whatever you feel like doing, do it. You really have nothing to lose. Don’t let anyone tell you that you
can’t, because even if you are not good at it, whatever it is, at least someday you can say you tried.
- Get to know everyone. Stay strong in your faith, it will get you farther in life.
- Think about going to confession often. That is something great to do- to go often. It is
like getting counseled and getting to talk to someone about how you are going to keep your faith strong.
- This is more to do with life than specifically faith – If there is something that you want to do,
do it! Not to the extreme like immoral things but if you want to try out for sports, do it. If you want to
be in a play, do it. You will regret more of what you did not do than what you did do.
- Stick with this program, the youth group here at church. This program is blessed and
can really help you. Have friends with strong faith, you can get to know them on such a deeper level
and they can support you.
- Bring friends here, that is how I got here. It is amazing to be here. Anyone can learn from
you guys.
- One of the things that helped me, I learned as much as I can. If you do that then
you are able to teach others and debate them about faith matters. When talking to especially those
that do not believe, atheists, it is good to be knowledgeable. Nothing gets you stronger than having to
defend your faith. When people say God doesn’t exist, you can get to the point that you can say yes He
does exist. You can block people who want to block your faith.
- Try to be yourself, not trying to always fit in. If you do that you lose part of yourself
and then people lose respect for you. So, just be yourself
- My personal philosophy is what I want to share: Go always with Christ. No matter what
circumstances , what situation you are in, remember if God is with you, who can be against you.
- Keep going to church and CREDO. Always do stuff that reminds you of church and
God. Love God.
- Don’t procrastinate! I procrastinated and it came back to bite me. Stay strong in your
faith. Jesus is the best thing ever.
- Don’t lose this , don’t take it for granted. It is easy to think everyone has this. It is
an amazing thing we have here. So many great people are in this room. Get to know them. Take
advantage of every opportunity we have in this parish.
- Read the Bible- I am scared of the Bible so I take it one verse at a time. Even though it
can be big and scary, it has so much good advice. Of course, cause it is the Bible!
- Well Katia wants me to say “don’t do drugs!” My advice is that you should do stuff you
don’t want to do. Things that are not fun for you or out of your comfort zone. It will make you a better
person. You should not stay in your own bubble. Don’t stay home. I have done this too much. Try
more, do more. You should be a “do”-er, not a “donot”-er.
- Talk to your friends, talk about religion, God and being Catholic. Everybody respects it. If they
don’t, what do you have to lose.
Class of 2011
Note: For the class of 2011, they knew the youth group as LIFE.
- I love LIFE and you should come next year with my sister.
- Keep going to LIFE! So many people from my freshman year are not here with us today. Even weekends you think you have too much homework or you are just not feeling it, just come. You will have a good time and it will be worth it.
- Stand up for your faith, know it and go to church every weekend. Really know what you believe. I want to see you know your faith as well as atheists and others know their position. Thank you for your friendship and make sure to treasure your Catholic Christian friends and hold tight to them.
- Reach out to friends who don't come to church or don't come to LIFE. It is a really great feeling to know that you are the reason someone is getting to know God.
- Do not give up. I have felt like HE is not there and like nothing is happening but it is not true. This is when you should not give up. Keep your faith in college.
- Lead by example, Be a leader. Be there for others and when they need help, give it.
- Take advantage of every opportunity you have like retreats and LIFE nights to grow in your faith. Do your homework before Sunday night!
- Go Tigers!
- Continue to form strong bonds with those who are likeminded in your faith. Invite friends to come along. You can always go deeper. There is so much to know you cannot always know everything.
- To always trust God, even when you don't know where He is leading you. He has a plan for you. He will get you through it. From a quote from someone else "When life knocks you to your knees, you are in the perfect position to pray"
Class of 2010
Note: For the class of 2010, they knew the youth group as LIFE.
- Find 5 minutes of your day to give thanks to God
- Don't procrastinate on your homework and then be unable to come to LIFE.
- Go to LIFE each week!
- Don't worry, God will take care of you, even if you don't see where He is
- Draw close to God and He will grow close to you
- When things get tough, offer it up!
- Be outgoing in HS, try something new that you've really wanted to do
- Don't be afraid to go all out with your faith, to show everyone your faith.
- Never be afraid to ask a question- don't be in the dark about God.
- Invite people to come with you to LIFE and other faith building events
- Stay pure.
- Always put your trust in the Lord
- Hold yourself to a high standard. Do not settle for less.
- Stick to what you know is right
- Girls: Support each other and tell each other you are beautiful. Don't believe the lie the world tells you that you are not unless you met some ideal.
- Guys: Take the example of this year's senior guys and become Men of God. We women need you.
- A quote from How the Catholic Church Built Western Civilization by Dr. Thomas E. Woods:
"The Church recalls the great men of Christendom--like Charlemange, Saint Thomas Aquinas, Saint Francis of Assisi, and Saint Francis Xavier, to name a few--and holds them up as models for how true men live. Its message? Essentially this: You can aspire to be one of these great men--a builder of civilization, a great genius, a servent of God and men, or a heroic missionary--or you can be a self-absorbed nobody fixated on gratifying your appetites. Our society does everything in its power to ensure that you wind up on the latter path. Be your own person. Rise above the herd, declare your independence from a culture that thinks so little of you, and proclaim that you intend to live not as a beast but as a man." (pg. 215)
